SPOTLIGHT! on Blair MacDonald

When did you begin your career in the mortgage industry?

I had previous experience with mortgages when I worked with CIBC. I joined the Blake Wilson Group in early 2018. I love the collaborative approach of our office. I can draw upon the expertise of my colleagues at any time. David Skinner has been doing mortgages longer than I’ve been alive!

What’s your favourite thing to do when you’re not working with your clients?

My wife and I have two wonderful kids. My son Barrett and my daughter Marron. We also have two dogs, Thor and Quinn.  I also love hosting our friends every Thursday night for “games night”. It’s a long-standing tradition that everyone really enjoys.

2018 was an exciting year for you in many ways…care to elaborate?

It was a year of change and excitement for sure! My wife Lyndsay and I both started new careers and we welcomed Marron in December. Marron and Barrett keep us on our feet. We’re a busy household, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

What’s your favourite thing about being a Mortgage Broker?

It’s all about helping people. In my previous career in insurance, I was able to help people, but with mortgages it feels more rewarding because the outcome is almost immediately gratifying. With insurance, you’re helping your clients protect against risk. Buying insurance is like buying a coffin. You may need it, but no one wants to use it. As a Mortgage Broker, I’m helping my clients finance their dreams!

Do you work with a particular clientele?

I am working with many first-time buyers and those seeking construction financing for new builds. Having built my own home, I loved the commitment that comes with seeing your dream become a reality. I am also working with investment properties and commercial files.

We always ask our clients to tell us about their dream home. Let’s hear about your dream home…what would it be like?

Any home where my wife and kids are is the perfect home for me. Having the space for the dogs makes it extra nice. My current house has all of those features, so I would say I live in my dream home now.
