SPOTLIGHT! on Yifei Xing
When did you begin your career in the mortgage industry?
I joined the mortgage industry in 2018. I’ve always loved numbers and been passionate about real estate and investing. I love that the industry allows me to use my analytical skills while also tapping into my personal interests.
What’s your favourite thing to do when you’re not working with your clients?
I bought my first home a few months ago, so I’ve been busy doing upgrades and renovations. If you saw our recent post on Kitec plumbing, I’m currently in the process of removing a Kitec system from my new home. It’s been keeping me quite busy.
What’s your favourite thing about being a Mortgage Broker?
I love working with the Chinese community, because I know what they’re experiencing as new Canadians. I can relate to the excitement and challenges they’re going through. I’m happy to support them throughout the home buying and adjustment process because I’ve been there.
At first, it wasn’t always easy adjusting to Canadian culture and my new life here. This is a bit of a funny story I like to tell about my first few days in Canada:
I came to Canada in 2009 to finish my degree. I only knew one person. I remember landing at the Stanfield Airport and heading down the highway to Acadia University. It’s funny when I think back to that moment because at the time it reminded me of a horror movie – everything was dark and quiet. All I could see were the outlines of the tree tops. It was so different from the lights, noise and constant people I was used to in my home city. I remember thinking “what have I gotten myself into?”. Fast forward 10 years and I’ve come to appreciate all of the things that I used to think were bizarre. Now I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.
Do you work with a particular clientele?
Yes, my area of speciality are new-to-Canada and foreign investor mortgages . I know the policies inside and out. Because of my background in economics and finance, I also support Blake behind the scenes on some commercial files.
We always ask our clients to tell us about their dream home. Let’s hear about your dream home…what would it be like?
My dream home will be a “secret garden” in the city. I’ll have lots of neat flowers and thick hedges in the heart of downtown where I feel connected but secluded at the same time.
