SPOTLIGHT! on Tanya MacKenzie
This week we’re shining the spotlight on a member of our admin team. We like to think of her as the CEO of First Impressions. Meet the friendly face and voice that greets our team and clients every day, Tanya.
When did you begin your career in the Mortgage Industry?
I only began working for the Blake Wilson Group (BWG) in April of this year, however my previous role was Executive Assistant of Commercial Banking for a large Financial Institution.
What’s your favourite thing to do when you’re not at the office?
When I’m not at work, I’m definitely a low-key homebody. I’m a single mom to an incredible 12-year-old son who is about to start Junior High. I have the most amazing and fun circle of girlfriends who I spend a lot of time with. I also like to CrossFit which I’ve been doing for 12 years. Oh, and I love the summer, so when I’m not working there’s a good chance I’m chasing the sun!
What’s your favourite thing about your job?
My favorite thing about my job is hands–down the all–star team I get to work with every day.
They are passionate about every mortgage, and I often hear yells of “YES!” coming from the brokers’ offices when they find out their client has been approved for a mortgage. Totally cliché, but they really care. I don’t think anyone can understand how much attention and thought goes into each deal at BWG. Each deal is a personal mission for the brokers. They’re very invested in the outcome for their clients.
Something else that is extremely important to me are the amazing, diverse personalities I work with. Many of my colleagues have incredible senses of humour. It’s a great feeling coming to work knowing you’re helping people achieve their dreams of property ownership, but also that you get to laugh throughout the day with colleagues turned friends…even when things get stressful. I appreciate what everyone brings to our team.
Do you work with a particular clientele?
Our team works with both residential and commercial clients. Having been involved in the banking industry for nine years in personal and commercial banking, I have a lot of experience working with a diverse group of people and we have a very diverse clientele.
I like to make sure clients coming into BWG feel welcomed and comfortable, whether I’m offering coffee, water and snacks to the parents or coloring books to their children.
We are kid friendly! A good experience for our clients is always the priority, which starts with their first impression at the front desk. The stories, experiences and dreams of our clients are all very different, so I meet many unique people every day. I love being the first to greet them when they walk through our door.
Tell us a bit about your dream home
I actually have a dream of owning a tiny home or cottage somewhere tucked away in the woods. There would be a lifting platform so I could CrossFit and a little pool, ideally on a lake!
